Music Ensembles
The following groups are open to all ages as long as the participant
has sufficient maturity and musical ability.
Rehearsals are open to anyone who would like to visit, but joining each
group requires an audition.
Auditions are held several times per year; check back for the latest
infomation.
Orchestra
Instrumentalists (strings, woodwinds, brass, or percussion) grade 6 to
adult sign up to play in worship on a rotating basis. Play as often or
infrequently as you like!
Short-term Ensembles
Short-term vocal and instrumental groups form periodically. Watch the
Newsletter, Bulletin Boards, or "Spread the Word" announcement flier for
information.
Accompanists
Pianists and organists accompany choral anthems and instrumental or
vocal soloists. Commitment can be tailored to fit your availability.
Songwriting/Composing
SVLC encourages the creation of new music to the glory of God.
Music or lyrics for use in worship may be submitted for
consideration.
Arts Ministries
Video Production
SVLC produces several original videos per year. Writers, directors,
actors, and editors are invited to assist. You can visit
www.svlcfamily.org/videos or
www.youtube.com/svlcmusic to see samples of
our work!
Poetry
Poets may submit works for display in the SVLC art gallery, or to be
considered as lyrics for new hymns and songs we use in worship.
Drama
Actors, directors, and writers produce drama sketches which are featured
occasionally in worship. We also schedule at least one large-scale play
or musical per year.
Banners and Textiles
Congregation members help to design and construct seasonal banners and
paraments which are used to decorate our sanctuary.
Visual Arts
SVLC maintains a small art gallery featuring paintings, photographs,
drawings, needlework, and poetry submitted by those in our community.
Artworks are also used in video projection and printed materials.
Dance
Dancers use their gifts during special worship presentations.
Other Worship Service Opportunities
Technical Arts (Sound, PowerPoint)
Tech Team members handle the critically important job of operating our
sound and video equipment during worship services. Training is
available.
Altar Care
Altar Care team members serve about once a month by maintaining
textiles, candles, and other furnishings, and by preparing communion
supplies.
Worship Crews
"Worship Crew" members are in charge of greeting, ushering,
serving communion, and other tasks during our worship services.
Commitment can be tailored to fit your availability.
description of Worship Crew duties.
If
you are a musician, actor, visual artist, poet, or dancer, or if you
have technical skills in the areas of video production or sound system
operation, I hope you'll consider finding ways to use those gifts here
at SVLC. Non-artists with a heart for worship can also get involved by
helping with our Altar Care team or Worship Crews. Take a look through
this overview of our Worship and Arts ministries, and contact me if you
are interested in joining or leading one of the groups listed above. -Ron
