Frequently Asked Questions
What are SVLC's service times?
SVLC has two Sunday morning services, at 8:45 and
10:30am. Each service has its own unique style.
See our Service Times page
for more information. On that page you will also
find information about special holiday services offered
during the Christmas and Easter seasons.
What is the typical dress for services at SVLC?
Come as you are! You will find attenders wearing
everything from suits and ties to t-shirts and jeans.
What doctrines does SVLC teach?
The best way to learn about SVLC's beliefs and
values is to come join us for an event or worship
service and experience something of the life of our
community. However, as a Lutheran church we generally
follow the doctrines laid out by early Reformation
leaders in the "Book of Concord":

A Message from Pastor Bill
Welcome to Shepherd of the Valley! If you're visiting
this site for the first time, or are considering
visiting our church for the first time, I'm so glad you
"virtually" stopped by. We've designed our website to be
not only helpful for our regular members, but to provide
a wealth of knowledge for guests and visitors as well.
So, you are in the right place.
I'm Bill Walles, and I'm the lead pastor here at SVLC.
You'll find this church to be a very welcoming community
that is working hard to know Christ personally and help
make Him known in the community and world around us.
If you're curious about what you might discover on a
Sunday morning, I encourage you to check out our
sermon
resource page, which has audio clips of past messages,
as well as some of the videos that we've done over the
years. We work hard to make sure an hour spent here on
Sunday morning is practical and applicable for the week
ahead. This resource also allows our guests and members
to follow along during a series of messages in case you
miss a week here or there.
You'll also find information about the other ministries
that happen on Sunday morning and throughout the week.
Got kids or teens? There's a place for them here. Just
check our youth ministry options at the
Lutes Yutes page
for more. Kids in grades K-5 have great options on a
Sunday morning with Kids Club. Got time for a mid-week
Bible study? You'll find that under ministries for both
men and women.
You can also find out more about the
missions that take
place outside of our walls. As a congregation we help
support a ministry to our troops overseas, a ministry
centered in Nicaragua, local Maple Valley ministries
like Vine Maple Place, and more.
This is a thriving and active community, and we're so
glad you're finding out more about us. After a little
more time here, please consider joining us for
worship
next Sunday. Services are offered in two different
styles:
Our 8:45am traditional service includes some of the
church traditions you may have grown up with: hymns led from
the organ or piano, liturgical elements, and anthems by
our members of our choir, handbells, and orchestra.
Our 10:30am contemporary service service uses music in a
more modern style led by our praise band. Video screens
are used to project song lyrics and display other
service information.
Again, thanks for stopping by. And if you'd like to
contact me directly, please feel free to do so at
pastor@svlcfamily.org. I look forward to meeting you!
